Log 011: Air Drying Cloths in an Apartment
When it comes to a wardrobe, I am a minimalist to the fullest extent. Some may call that OCD, but I like to not think about that. I have just enough clothes to get me through one week of life at which point, I must do the laundry. Or, risk wearing dirty underwear, but I like to think I have grown past my undergrad years. Having my clothes go through 52 washes a year can take its tole on the fabric. In order to increase the lifespan of my clothes – as well as environmental impact, other things… etc., I always air dry the clothes. Now I could go off into a tangent of the many other benefits of air drying your clothing, but that is not what this post is about. Save that rant for another post. This post is about the best way to accomplish this in a small city apartment.
I recently moved to an apartment in Downtown Detroit. This represented a fairly significant decrease in storage space from my duplex in the burbs. One key area this change represented a larger challenge was finding a way to air dry all of my clothing. I no longer had my basement structural beams to hang my clothes for air drying. I had to figure out a way to hang my clothes without taking up valuable living room space for when I had guests over. So, I got to work, and drew up a plan.
Like most great plans of a shitty millennial, it started with a google search, and then was quickly followed by an amazon prime purchase. But, in any case, the thought process went like this. I knew I couldn’t hang 10 kilos – yes kilos – of wet clothing from Paracord attached to command hooks, so I had to find another hook to minimize damage to my walls. Luckily a childhood of education guided by televised infomercials with – my his coked out soul rest in piece – Billy Mays served me well, and let me remember the Hercules Hook. Or, better yet, its amazon knockoff. So, two days later my prime packaged arrived, and I got to work sticking knockoff Hercules Hooks in my wall. I definitely suggest measuring these before sicking the hooks in, so you don’t end up with more holes than needed like I now have. Additionally, place them off by one foot on each wall, so your clothes have room to breath.

I can say though that this totally worked. I was really happy with the result after I finished the setup. I honestly wasn’t expecting it to work out this well. Am I the only one that ever has had this problem? Has anyone of my silent readers ever had this problem? Or, am I just screaming to the aether? Let me know in the comments!
